The HIMSCON PH 2020 concluded with a message to its association, its partners and its members: Pivot and Prosper.
2020 was supposed to be a year of prosperity, as it was the doorstep to the second roaring twenty-twenties where leap economics will be fueled by rapid technological adoption and instead, it was a pivotal year to assess our stance not only in the industry and our place in society as members, contributors, shapers and participants. In the pandemic, the business world learned to quickly pivot to digital means to keep the economy going. Online communications and online transactions fueled each country’s digital growth. Industry conferences adopted to virtual and online conferences in order to keep associational engagement going as a commitment to its members even during the pandemic.
The theme of HIMSCON PH 2020 is: Pivot and Prosper. It is not necessarily restricted to the Health Information and Management industry, it caters to the broad businesses and industries that fuel economies. Having learned the lessons and insights from the pandemic, the business world is well-equipped for next year as 2021 brings much optimism and promise for a more resilient world compared to the world that was caught unaware by the pandemic.
Adapting to Health and Medical Information Standards
This was also a disruptive year for the health information and management industry. With the pandemic, health information that is processed, assessed and disseminated to secure channels were a matter of survival as key participants and data custodians were racing against time to ensure that the data being handled, published and relayed are uncompromised in terms of quality and accuracy. The need for a faster and more reliable system built for Health IT systems where more evident as providers who were traditionally acting as custodians, all of a sudden found themselves as intrinsic participants in a national and global health information exchange about a person’s health information.
There is a need to have a delivery and management of health information whose data principle’s trust-worthiness becomes a non-question as multiple participants out in the field and data processors who are working in parallel and simultaneously are all subject to data desensitization in compliance with the basic trust, safety and standards to be followed.
The Philippines, a destination for outsourcing provisions on processes and data entry for health information, headed by the Health Information and Management Association of the Philippines (HIMAP) accounts for the country’s need to keep up with the emerging and evolving health information standards with the upcoming adoption of new technologies such as Blockchain and Robotic Health Process Administration (RHPA) to keep up with the times, discover new market opportunities and for the country to retain its global status as a destination for health information services.
Telemetry and Virtual Healthcare
Global and local public safety and health protocols have advocated for social distancing, keeping on-premise staff at a minimum and employing Internet and Communications Technology (ICT) to pivot and transform the healthcare processes on hospitals, insurance and other healthcare organizations. This reinvents the status quo for telemedicine, telemetry, distance doctors and online health portals. They are no longer seen as an alternative way to manage health outcomes, but is now considered an essential functionality of the healthcare process and patient experience. With the booming usage of healthcare related apps, online health information and systems across clinics, healthcare providers and government mandated insurances or private health insurance, there is a need to make the convergence more secured and be more user-friendly to the non-technical ageing population.
Transforming the organization’s healthcare protocols, business process and information administration on the usage of online and virtual healthcare services was done at a strategic and rapid response rate during the pandemic. More than likely, these processes in place are here to stay as the great disruption brought by the pandemic has a lasting effect on reshaping the landscape of healthcare.
With the growth of automation and internet-enabled medical devices embedded on patients, the convergence of healthcare services and response persons will take on a more meaningful transformations as real-time distance care is inching closer to reality as smart medical devices hooked to a patient monitoring system under the administration of healthcare organizations are designed not for commercial, but to respond quicker to health emergencies to drive better health outcomes and to save more lives.
Healthcare is Rapidly Changing
As the COVID-19 response rate made us realize the value and impact of online or digital technologies that are embedded in our healthcare systems. The virtualization and continued disruption of emerging technology will reshape the healthcare and health information industry in this decade. This is made more evident as the world grappled and pivoted in essential response to the global pandemic, so as moving forward, the industry and the world is more prepared in dealing with great healthcare crisis in the foreseeable future.
There was a sense of urgency in HIMSCON PH 2020 for its players, shakers and movers within the industry. To pivot means to make strategic decision to be better equipped to adopt to the changed health information landscape in the post pandemic world. To prosper is to utilize business continuity, risk assessment and management – aided by insightful decision making in making the industry more resilient and be agile to the changes to come.
