Blockchain Adoption Accelerates Despite Pandemic

It can be said that disruption is one of the best drivers for innovation. In this case, the global pandemic and its adverse effect on the global economy. Despite the huge setbacks suffered by global industries, the people, processes and technology platforms have learned to adjust and work with the environment in order to push projects forward.

JP Morgan’s Blockchain

Kadena, JP Morgan’s Blockchain-enabled transaction facilitation platform has reached a record high 480,000 transactions per second according to Decrypt.

As reported, the performance is a capacity breakthrough as Kadena was able to double its capacity for transactions per second — stemming from Ethereum that was reported to be 14 transactions per second, Kadena managed to breakthrough the capacity to set a record performance as engineers scaled its capacity exponentially.

To date, Kadena is said to be the fastest Blockchain in the world.

Jeju Island – Blockchain Island

The island of Jeju is a popular destination in South Korea. As the country is cautiously re-opening its tourism industry while suppressing any potential surge from domestic flights, the local government of Jeju has announced that it is making mandatory, the download of a Blockchain powered application to all tourists that are inbound to Jeju.

According to CoinTelegraph, the app, commercially known as Zzeung, is a product of a partnership with South Korean based Blockchain developer ICONLOOP and the local government of Jeju.

The app is built around Decentralized Identity (DID) where a person’s vital information on health and profile are stored as digital identities over a permissioned Blockchain where collaborators include health officials, government and law enforcement. The app will be used for contact tracing and if a person is found to be COVID-19 positive, that is only the time that their identities will be shared across trusted collaborators.

Justice in the Irrevocable Chain

Meanwhile, Thailand’s Court of Justice has announced that it is actively developing a Blockchain platform to support the judiciary process of courts.

The announcement, came in the midst of the digitalization of the Court of Justice, is said to have a use case by next year as a target.

Blockchain’s permissioned and yet public network will allow irrevocable and time-stamped information that cannot be altered, therefore, the dissemination of information on rulings will have a reinforced identity over the Blockchain.

As society is moving forward despite the pandemic, it’s disruptive influence is a contributing factor to the acceleration of adoption on technologies such as Blockchain as we are able to re imagine processes that were once very dependent on human actors.
